My Online Identity
My Online Identity
Social media platforms are used by many every day for countless different reasons. Some use their platforms for sponsoring a business, others for their brand, or even just post regularly occurring events. My social media platforms consist of the following: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and TikTok. All my accounts are used differently and have different purposes for each post.
The first of the many platforms I’d like to address is my Snapchat account. Snapchat, to me, is a highly versatile social media platform. The primary purpose of my Snapchat is to communicate easily with friends, teammates, classmates, and siblings. Most of the time, when I contact others on Snapchat, I send separate individual snaps. On the other hand, if I have to contact a study group or team, I send snaps to a group chat. Finally, when I use Snapchat, I’ll post regularly on “My Story.” When I post my story, it’s usually when I am traveling or on vacation. Everyone can see what is posted on my regular story, but if I want to post something more private, I’ll use my private story. This is where I can choose who can view my story. Overall, my Snapchat is used to show the fun and outgoing part of my life.
The next social media platform I primarily use is my Instagram account. My Instagram is meant for more meaningful posts. My posts on Instagram are filled with different events throughout my high school and college life. Examples of these posts are my hiking trips, Cross Country/Track meets, and formal gatherings. Occasionally I will have a more casual post on my Instagram, like my beach trips to Panama City. Other than that, I like to keep my Instagram appropriate since people, including Family members, coaches, and media representatives at my school can see what I post. If someone were to look at my Instagram, they would get a general overview of my interests.
Finally, the third social media platform I primarily use is my Facebook account. Even though Facebook is an older social media platform, there are a couple of important uses for Facebook. One, since it is an older platform, It makes it easier for me to communicate with family members, including my parents, grandparents, and aunts. This adds to my second reason for keeping my Facebook account. It is easier for some of my family to use Facebook than Snapchat or Instagram. Since the purpose of having my account is family-oriented, so is the content I post on Facebook. Many of my Facebook posts are family holiday photos I am tagged in. For example, the Christmas photos from my mom or photos from my trip to Oklahoma to see my dad. If someone saw my Facebook, they would get a glimpse of my family and how we bonded together.
The following accounts are just social media accounts that I actively post on. Along with my main social media platforms, I also have Twitter and TikTok. The only purpose of my Twitter is to stay updated on my school’s athletic page. As well as a Twitter profile, I also have an account on TikTok. Even though I browse through TikTok and like posts, I do not actively post on TikTok.
